  • Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is likely to accept an offer from Serie A club Lazio
  • Rojo is said to be no longer an essential part of United's new project
  • The Red Devils were also linked to a transfer move for Lazio star Ciro Immobile

Marcos Rojo is now likely to accept an offer from Serie A club Lazio after falling down to pecking order at Manchester United, reports from Italy said.

The Red Devils have already made a couple of major signings this summer. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen on stacking his squad. And to make way for more future signings, United is looking to offload excess players on its current squad.

Rojo, who is coming off a six-month loan from Estudiantes, is one of the United outcasts who could find themselves moving away from Old Trafford. The 30-year-old defender has been approached by Serie A contender Lazio, Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb.com reported.

The Argentine spent the second half of last season on loan back at his first club, Estudiantes. However, his return to Argentina was far from a success as he only managed one appearance for the club.

After his loan spell ended, Rojo announced his return to United, but he is unlikely to play a role in Solskjaer’s new plans for the first team, the report said.

This has fueled talks of Rojo’s possible exit at United, with Lazio said to be interested in signing him. The Italian side has already found an agreement with the “player’s entourage” while an official offer has yet to be made.

Rojo, who is currently valued at around €8 million ($9.5 million), would “gladly accept” an offer from Lazio, according to the report.

Ahead of his possible move to Lazio, the report suggested that Rojo could help solve the club’s problems in the “back department” with his ability to play both a “central and left-back” position. His contract with United will expire in 2021, but it is said that he is no longer considered essential to the club’s next project.

Despite finishing only fourth in the Serie A this past season, Lazio managed to qualify in this year’s Champions League.

Simone Inzaghi has done a tremendous job keeping up the energy for Lazio and has helped Ciro Immobile, the club’s top goal scorer, win the 2020 Golden Shoe. Immobile became the top scorer in both the Serie A and across all Europe’s top five leagues after scoring 35 goals in 36 games.

Prior to the Rojo exit talks, previous reports had also linked the Red Devils to a transfer move for Immobile.
