Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs reportedly denied assault allegations after he was arrested Tuesday.
The 46-year-old, who currently manages the Wales national team, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend, as reported by BBC. Giggs’ representatives said the former Red Devils midfielder denied all allegations against him and was co-operating with the officials.
The BBC report also revealed The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has canceled a press conference that was due to take place Tuesday, where the manager was set to announce his squad for November’s international fixtures.
BBC quoted the association saying it was, "aware of an alleged incident involving the men's national team manager Ryan Giggs".
The police arrived at Giggs’ $2.2 million-house in Worsley after 10 pm Sunday following reports of "a disturbance", The Sun reported, but International Business Ttimes could not independently verify this point. Following that, Giggs was arrested and taken to Pendleton police station, where he was questioned on suspicion of bodily harm and assault against his girlfriend, Kate Greville.
Giggs, was charged with section 47 assault and section 39 common assault, and was granted bail pending further inquiries.
The former player has been in charge of Wales since January 2018, leading them to the main rounds of Euro 2020, which has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Giggs is considered among the legends of Manchester United, having won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, four FA Cups, and three League Cups during his time at Old Trafford from 1990 to 2014.
The 46-year-old is also co-owner of League Two side Salford City FC, alongside former Man Utd teammates David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, and Paul Scholes.
Giggs, who represented only one club throughout his playing career, netted 168 goals in 963 competitive appearances for The Red Devils.
