KEY POINTS

  • The transfer window is set to close on August 31
  • Manchester United may consider signing some more players before the window closes
  • Rio Ferdinand believes his former club should sign Niguez or Rice if the opportunity presents itself

The transfer window deadline is set for August 31, and some teams around Europe are still making moves–that could possibly include Manchester United.

The club started off their English Premier League season with a dominant 5-1 victory over longtime rivals Leeds United thanks to Paul Pogba’s masterful four assists from the midfield and Bruno Fernandes’ hat-trick.

New arrivals Jadon Sancho also made his debut in the game after he subbed in for Daniel James at the 77th minute of the game, and Raphael Varane was introduced to the crowd prior to kickoff.

With their sights firmly set on making a run to the top of the Premier League table, the Red Devils may need another signing to complete the team.

Manchester United legend turned TV analyst for BT Sport Rio Ferdinand was asked on his FIVE Youtube channel by co-host Joel Beya to clarify when he said that there are more signings to come for Manchester United.

“I think if the right player becomes available for the right price, Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] will go and get him,” said Ferdinand. “The problem is who’s out there and who could be a good fit?”

Ferdinand then mentioned Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez and West Ham United’s Declan Rice as ideal signings for the club.

“Saul Niguez would be a perfect fit and his release clause was £160 million ($221.6 million) a couple of years ago. It’s now, I think, [around £40-50 million ($55.4-69.3 million)]. In today’s game that’s a decent price for someone who has Champions League experience. I’m a big fan of Niguez. If you can get him in this window, I think you do it.”

As for Rice, Ferdinand likes what the England national team player has done with their run at the 2020 European Championships.

Moreover, he believes that Rice can succeed wherever he goes--whether he stays at West Ham United or leaves for Manchester United.

There’s a wealth of possibilities available for Manchester United to explore before the transfer window ends, and it may end up with the acquisition of either Niguez or Rice.
