Manchester United News: Club Legend Has Sound Advice For Outcast Van De Beek

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand admitted that he gave Donny van de Beek potentially game-changing advice regarding his situation at Old Trafford.

Speaking on his YouTube channel FIVE, Ferdinand told the disgruntled midfielder why he is in this situation with the Red Devils.

“I think the big thing with Donny van de Beek–and he’s a great guy, we’ve had him on the show before–he’s a really calm, relaxed guy. I think this is a funny situation because if he was a bad guy and he was volatile and he was loud, he’d be gone. He wouldn’t be at [Manchester] United,” Ferdinand said.

“And sometimes when you’re too nice maybe, or you’re nice about a situation and you’re polite, you might not get the situation that you really require for yourself. And I think that’s probably the problem for someone like Donny van de Beek.”

The Dutch midfielder was Manchester United’s most expensive acquisition during the summer transfer window prior to the 2020-21 English Premier League season after they paid a cool €39 million ($45.3 million) to Dutch side Ajax.

However, van de Beek was used sparingly by Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Van de Beek only appeared in 39 matches for the Red Devils, his latest appearance being in their English League Cup loss to West Ham United on September 22.

Ferdinand also mentioned that he was able to speak with van de Beek recently and gave him another piece of advice that could help the disgruntled defensive midfielder moving forward.

“I said to him, ‘Regardless of what happens man, just work hard’ and I think I said that on the show [when he made an appearance],” said Ferdinand.

“He will never see it now, but he’ll look back and go, ‘You know what, that helped make me get stronger’ and he can use this to fuel him and push him on in the next phase of his career when it comes.”

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that van de Beek will angle for an exit during the January transfer window.

“It is true that Italian and Spanish clubs are interested, and it depends whether Man United can agree on the conditions with them. He could also move to the Premier League, with Everton one of the clubs interested,” said Romano.

“Donny [van de Beek] wants to play so if he is not playing in two to three months, he will leave, I am sure.”
