Manchester United News: Donny Van De Beek’s Agent Upset With Red Devils' Strategy
KEY POINTS
- Manchester United recently signed Ajax star Donny van de Beek
- The 23-year-old has been getting minimal minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
- Van de Beek’s agent said he doesn’t like the number of minutes the midfielder is getting
Manchester United’s newest addition, Donny van de Beek, hasn’t been receiving the minutes he deserves, according to his agent Sjaak Swart.
In a recent deal worth $46 million, Van de Beek joined the Red Devils from Ajax. The midfielder was anticipated as one of the promising names to play for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s club.
“I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United,” Van de Beek told United's official website when he signed with the team.
However, Van de Beek has yet to start a Premier League matchup throughout his stay with the organization. In the tightly contested 3-2 victory against Brighton last weekend, the 23-year-old was only fielded as a substitute.
“A substitute, I don’t like it at all,” his agent told VoetbalPrimeur.
Swart continued by saying that the team struggled against Brighton and shouldn’t have been in such a tight bout against the Seagulls.
“But normally they should have lost 1-7. Five times post and bar, Brighton…They have a nice team, but that shouldn’t happen to Manchester United,” Swart added.
In the past few months, Manchester United has been trying to sign major players to add to their squad. With attempts of luring Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho failing, Van de Beek is perceived as the biggest addition to their team.
“I think you show quite a bit of disrespect to Donny when you say he was the only one because he is a top player and he strengthens our team and of course we have to concentrate on ourselves,” Solskjaer said, Goal reported.
Manchester United continues to improve with the development of young players Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood. These rising stars have complemented well the play of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.
“Different clubs have to be allowed to do whatever they do and feel they can. We are working hard to have a competitive squad and team. If and when there are updates we will give you them,” Solskjaer continued.
The Old Trafford-based team will face Brighton again on Oct. 1 in the Carabao Cup.
