Manchester United News: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Prospect Asks Porto To Adjust Transfer Price
KEY POINTS
- Alex Telles has been linked to joining Manchester United
- Porto is asking a transfer fee of $23.22 million for the left-back
- Telles urges Porto to lower their asking price
Manchester United’s prospect Alex Telles has urged Porto to reconsider the asking price regarding his transfer in hopes of expediting a potential deal with Manchester United.
The left-back sees the $23.33 million request from his team to be too high, limiting his opportunities. Given the economic impact of the global pandemic, teams are now more prudent in signing new players. Clubs are ensuring they get the value out of every cent they are spending on talent.
With Porto and Manchester United’s ongoing discussions, the 27-year-old remains optimistic that the Red Devils can come up with a deal within this week. Teams must finalize transactions before the transfer window is set to close on Oct. 5.
“United’s stance is similar to the Brazilian’s and it is understood a valuation in the region of £12 [$15.3] million is viewed as more realistic.” The Guardian reported.
It would be financially beneficial for Sérgio Conceição’s squad if they maximize any deal they can get from Telles’ contract. If nothing pulls through, the defender is expected to become a free agent and will be open for more negotiations for a potential summer deal.
The Brazilian standout has been a strong piece for Porto since 2016 and is currently in the last year of his contract. The estimated weekly salary of Telles would be $87,482 a week if he suits up for Manchester United at full price.
The recent Portuguese Cup winner would serve as a big acquisition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who sees Telles as possible competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams. The club has benefited lately from young stars like Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood developing their game with Solskjaer.
In last year’s Premier League standings, Manchester United rallied for a third-place finish as team chemistry played a big role for the Old Trafford-based squad. The Red Devils hope to continue to improve the team’s cohesiveness this season.
