  • Paul Pogba looks to be staying with Manchester United this season
  • Tahith Chong has impressed in his first game with Birmingham City
  • Chong could possibly take Pogba's role if he leaves

Manchester United’s transfer window has been an eventful one, but its focus has now been on keeping Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

After reports came out that Paris Saint-Germain was hot on the heels of the French national team player, many believed that Pogba would be leaving Old Trafford this summer.

However, no deal has yet to materialize despite many sources claiming that Pogba leaving this summer was a done deal.

It appears that no transfer will be happening this summer as Pogba reported to training camp plus Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels good about his player staying.

Should Pogba suddenly leave the club though, they will be in dire need of a replacement.

The market is already dried up of talent that can be considered on the same level as Pogba, so the Red Devils might need to wait until next season and stare at the gaping hole until then.

However, they do have a promising player that could feasibly take the role next season.

Tahith Chong is a 21-year-old winger who made his debut with the senior Manchester United team in the 2018-19 season after he joined the academy in 2016.

The Dutch player is currently out on a season-long loan with Birmingham City as his two previous loan spells didn’t work out as well as expected.

His first appearance with Birmingham City ended in thunderous applause as they started their season with a one-goal win over Sheffield United in the English Football League Championship.

Chong was previously used as a winger in past loan spells, but when that didn’t work out, Birmingham City decided to switch up his position and put him in the left-hand side as a midfielder.

This worked perfectly for Chong as he used his energy to fly up and down the pitch to cover every single attack Sheffield United tried to mount, leading to him racking up a match-high seven tackles and five ball recoveries.

His highlight came in the form of a beautifully-executed cross that found its way to the back of the net, leading to the victory.

The Dutchman is still far from playing regular football in the English Premier League, but his experience and upcoming matches with Birmingham City will be the key to unlocking his talent--and possibly taking up the mantle of Pogba, should he leave.
