Manchester United reportedly offering Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic no. 7 shirt in an attempt to lure Bundesliga star Jason Sancho.

Ronaldo isn’t only an extremely talented player in the pitch. He was also an icon of the sport and one of the best soccer players to ever rock the “no. 7.” His nickname says it all – “CR7,” however, his former club Manchester United are reportedly on the works to pass the legacy of Ronaldo’s iconic number to one of their top prospects – Sancho of Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund.

In the past few weeks, United has been heavily linked to Sancho in a blockbuster move this summer. The club is reportedly hoping to tempt the 20-year-old goal scorer into joining them by offering the club’s iconic No.7 shirt, a number lastly made famous by Ronaldo in English soccer Evening Standard reported.

The No.7 shirt is revered at United with players such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Ronaldo having donned it during the club’s history.

Sancho is one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s primary transfer targets ahead of next season and Man United are said to be willing to break their transfer record just to sign him. He has been in sensational form for Borussia Dortmund this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 16 assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances.

In his entire career, Sancho has already scored a total of 31 goals and dished out an incredible 42 assists, in 90 games. And what made Sancho’s tally a head-turner was the fact that even Ronaldo and Lionel Messi weren’t able to match his numbers when they were his age.

The Portuguese star, who was the star of Man United from 2003 to 2009, only scored half the tally of Sancho’s with 16 goals and 16 assists in 107 appearances. The Barcelona star on the other hand, came a bit closer and managed to score 26 goals together with eight assists when he was Sancho’s age.

By summer, Sancho is believed to cost as much as £120 million ($149,000,000). This is a staggering amount but United are convinced they’ve done enough to beat Chelsea and Liverpool in the Sancho signing sweepstakes.

Ultimately, Sancho’s job is to provide goals and assists, something he’s already been doing in Bundesliga matches for quite some time. But aside from the impressive scoring and soccer IQ, many believe that it is Sancho’s flamboyance and competitiveness which make him so entertaining.
