Manchester United Player Demands $128K-A-Week As Wage Amid Chelsea Links: Report
KEY POINTS
- Dean Henderson demands Man Utd to increase his wages to $128K-a-week
- Chelsea are interested in signing him this summer
- Henderson is the product of Man Utd's youth academy
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, has reportedly demanded a lucrative contract with the Red Devils amid interest from Chelsea.
Man Utd’s first-choice keeper David de Gea has been on the receiving end of major criticism this season, the latest coming after his blunder against Chelsea that cost Man Utd the FA Cup match.
According to a report in the British publication The Times, Henderson is ready to replace de Gea as Man Utd’s No. 1 goalkeeper but the 23-year-old has asked the club for assurance that he will be their first-choice next season.
Henderson, who signed a three-year deal with Man Utd last summer, currently earns $45,000-a-week. However, with other clubs showing keen interest in him, Man Utd could be forced to double the player’s wages in order to retain him.
Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, has repeatedly frustrated boss Frank Lampard, who now is looking to replace him ahead of the next campaign. Chelsea reportedly is interested in signing Henderson, who is believed to be prepared to sign a new contract with Man Utd as long as his wages are largely improved.
The report has revealed that Henderson, who is a product of Man Utd’s youth academy, wants the Old Trafford side to pay him $128,000-a-week, which is very less when compared to de Gea’s weekly wages of $475,000.
It is understood that Chelsea will do everything possible to convince Henderson to move to London, especially after discovering that they have no chance of signing Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer.
Reacting to rumors about Chelsea approaching them regarding Ter Stegen’s transfer, Barcelona have reportedly said the player is non-transferable as they are in talks with him over a lucrative contract extension. Ter Stegen has been outstanding for the Catalans and he is considered as the second-most prized player of the club after Lionel Messi.
Chelsea have also been chasing Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak but that move also looks unlikely this summer.
