  • Cristiano Ronaldo is contracted with Juventus until 2022
  • He scored 36 goals in 44 games for Juventus in 2020-21 term
  • He is linked with a move away from Juventus this summer

Manchester United have reportedly received a major boost in their pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who were rivaling the Red Devils in the race to sign Ronaldo, have decided not to chase the player this summer, reported The Athletic.

The fall in France's lucrative TV rights deal has resulted in financial issues and PSG are in no position to sign a superstar this summer. The former Ligue 1 champions are instead expected to hold on to their current stars in the team – Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, the Athletic report further stated. While Neymar has agreed to stay on until 2025, Mbappe has been linked with a move away from Paris.

In addition to that, it is understood that Ronaldo's relationship with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi isn't the best and that would be one of the hindrances.

It was previously reported that Manchester United had asked Ronaldo to accept a significant pay-cut to complete a sensational return to Old Trafford. It is believed that Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendis, had approached Manchester United about a deal ahead of the 2021 summer window. But Manchester United said it will consider the signing only if the Portuguese forward accepted a cut in his take-home pay by 50%.

Ronaldo, who spend six years at Old Trafford, is expected to be offered a wage of around $18 million per annum by his former employers.

The 36-year-old continues to impress with his game. In the recently ended 2020-21 campaign, Ronaldo not only won the Serie A golden boot, but also the MVP for the best forward in the Italian top-flight. Ronaldo finished with a tally of 36 goals in 44 competitive appearances for the Allianz side.

However, there have also been reports that Ronaldo, Mbappe and Mauro Icardi are set to be involved in a major transfer case this season. While Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid, Ronaldo will join PSG in a swap deal that would see Argentinian forward Icadi move to Turin, according to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport.
