  • United exec Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won't give any player a huge salary increase, a report says
  • This includes superstar Paul Pogba
  • The World Cup winner will be given a "reasonable" pay raise if he signs a new contract with United

Manchester United has come up with a new long-term deal which could dictate the future of Paul Pogba, a report said.

Despite activating their option to extend Pogba’s deal for another year, the Red Devils are not willing to give him a massive salary increase to make him stay at Old Trafford, ESPN reported, citing unnamed sources.

Following the completion of Alexis Sanchez’s permanent move to Inter Milan, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have formulated a wage structure that will not be negotiable for any player in the team, including Pogba, according to the ESPN report. While United has devised a "new long-term deal" for the World Cup winner, sources said the club will only make "a reasonable offer."

While the 27-year-old is likely to be given a pay raise on his £270,000-a-week deal ($352,000) if he opts to sign a new contract, it won't be an "extortionate" one. Sources also said that nothing big is coming for Pogba at the moment, and United is "relaxed" about his future.

The United chief is still open to allowing the French star to play the final year of his current deal should all parties not come to an agreement on the new terms, per the report.

The Red Devils recently exercised their option to extend Pogba's deal at the club until 2022. The deal stated that the midfielder will be allowed to openly negotiate with clubs from in and outside the Premier League and leave via free transfer the following summer.

In United’s victorious win against Newcastle on Oct. 17, Solskjaer dropped a huge hint about Pogba’s current situation. According to the Norwegian manager, having the former Juventus star come off the bench was the best thing to do given his back and hip problems.

On Wednesday, United managed to beat reigning Ligue 1 champion Paris Saint-Germain 2-1, with Pogba once again coming off the bench. After the match, Pogba didn’t blame the benching on his injury and insisted that his substitution was all part of United’s plan.

"It [his substitution against PSG] was prepared," Pogba told RMC Sport. "We had prepared well for the match. We know that they are very strong offensively, and we had to block that. Afterwards, we started especially well and we had chances. [We] managed to score."
