Manchester United Rumors: Legendary German Manager Favorite To Land Old Trafford Job

Manchester United’s search for a new head honcho is moving extremely fast, and they have since added former Red Devils interim manager Ralf Rangnick to the shortlist.

In an exclusive report by the Manchester Evening News, the supposedly sudden interest in Rangnick is fueled by the possibility that Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino may not be able to make his way to Old Trafford.

This new piece of information comes as a bit of a shock to Manchester United fans because it was reported a few days ago that Pochettino is more than willing to leave France and move to England.

However, that move would need Manchester United to pony up some cash and pay compensation to Paris Saint-Germain to facilitate the move.

Red Devils executive chairman Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold were supposedly left in England as the Manchester United squad traveled to Spain for their stunning UEFA Champions League victory over Villareal.

Having Rangnick manage the team could actually be a sneakily magnificent move for the struggling Manchester United side as he is the supposed mentor of world-renowned coaches Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.

Rangnick is also credited as the godfather of “gegenpressing,” a football tactic that places heavy emphasis on aggressive pressure to regain the ball as quickly as possible before launching a massive counter-attack for goal-scoring opportunities.

The 63-year-old is currently serving as the head of sports and development at Russian club FC Lokomotiv Moskow but has had stints as a manager with German sides Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig.

Acquiring Rangnick should be a sign of salvation for a Manchester United squad that is coming off the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last weekend.

His experience in Germany should translate well enough to the English Premier League, and he has the personnel to apply his "gegenpressing" with the Red Devils.

Agile and flexible wing-backs Fred and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are set to be the workhorses in Rangnick’s philosophy as they can cover the length of the field quickly while allowing scorers Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford to have better shots on goal.

Michael Carrick has since been named as Manchester United’s interim manager in the meantime and will be taking his side to Stamford Bridge when they visit Chelsea on Sunday, November 28, hopefully pulling out a stunner on the Premier League leaders.
