Manchester United Rumors: Prominent Insider Opens Up On Pogba, Solskjaer Situations
KEY POINTS
- Fabrizio Romano confirms that Ole Gunnar Solskajer will keep his job for the foreseeable future
- Solskjaer's job security now entirely depends on the outcome of their next fixtures
- Paul Pogba's contract is still set to expire in 2022 with no deal in sight just yet
Prominent football insider Fabrizio Romano has provided important updates on two of Manchester United’s important personnel: Paul Pogba and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In a series of tweets, he has confirmed that the unpopular Norwegian will get to keep his job for now but under intense scrutiny for the upcoming games and possibly until their Manchester City fixture on November 6.
“The decision from the main part of Manchester United board is now confirmed [or] approved. My understanding is Ole Gunnar Solskjær will definitely be in charge for the Tottenham game on Saturday. Ferguson supported him. Ole also spoke to players today. Next games will be crucial,” said Romano.
The report comes after he confirmed the rumors that Sir Alex Ferguson made an appearance at the Carrington training grounds to “protect” Solskjaer, as was first reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News.
Manchester United fans had a glimmer of hope yesterday after a torrent of reports came flooding in that Solskjaer’s job was up for grabs this week.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane have all been linked with a move to Manchester United.
However, complications among all three managers have been reported yesterday, further mucking the waters.
It is believed that Conte remains the frontrunner for the job if the opportunity presents itself.
On the Pogba front, Romano has confirmed that his contract is still set to expire in the summer of 2022 and that his agent, Mino Raiola, has said that everything is calm for now.
The French midfield maestro has been linked to a move back to Juventus in January in case Pogba is not keen on signing an extension, allowing Manchester United to recoup some transfer capital to go after big names in the summer of 2022.
These are truly turbulent times for Manchester United after they absorbed their worst home loss to archrival Liverpool this past weekend to the tune of five goals to none.
Manchester United is set to play Tottenham in their next match on Saturday, October 30.
