Manchester United Rumors: Rangnick Only Wants One Player As His First Potential Signing

Ralf Rangnick appears to be sticking with the current set of talent he has with Manchester United.

Now that Rangnick has fully taken over Manchester United, the next thing to look forward to is his transfer targets given the January window is fast approaching.

There have been a number of rumors swirling around claiming the 63-year-old already has a few players on his radar.

However, veteran journalist and The Sportsman’s Pete O’Rourke revealed that it has not been the case at Old Trafford recently.

According to O’Rourke, Manchester United is not planning to make a swoop for any player as Rangnick is “pretty happy” to squeeze the most out of the talent-stacked roster he has at the moment.

“From what I'm hearing, I'm not expecting any ins - even with Ralf Rangnick coming in,” O’Rourke told Give Me Sport. “There's such a wealth of talent at Old Trafford that he's going to work with what he's got and he's pretty happy to do that as well."

Should O’Rourke happen to be wrong about his report and Rangnick decide to pursue a player in the upcoming transfer windows, there’s a great chance that it will be RB Salzburg’s Amadou Haidara, according to The Times.

The report noted that the christened “Godfather of Gegenpressing” has long been impressed by Haidara and is now considering the midfielder as his top priority transfer target.

Some reports even stated that Haidara is one of the midfielders being touted as Manchester United’s suitable replacement for Paul Pogba.

Rangnick, meanwhile, has not disclosed any information about his specific transfer plans. However, he has dropped a major hint at what type of players he wants to sign.

“If you pay big money for a 30-year-old and he’s still good enough to make you successful, I don’t mind that,” Rangnick told The Guardian. “But you have to be aware the money is only being invested in the potential success over the next two or three years and you won’t get any return.”

“I think it always makes more sense to sign a player at 21 or 22 [years old] and if you have to pay a big fee, you have the chance to develop him into a player who is worth even more,” the coach continued.

An earlier report said that Rangnick is more focused on identifying players who could leave Manchester United. Among the mentioned names were Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson.
