  • Manchester United loanee Odion Ighalo struggles for playing time this season
  • Ighalo has become a target in and outside the English Premier League
  • The Nigerian striker's loan deal is set to expire at the end of January

After having his playing time reduced this season, Manchester United loanee Odion Ighalo might consider taking a look at other options.

Ighalo is one Manchester United player who isn’t too pleased with the signing of Edinson Cavani. Since the former Paris Saint-Germain striker’s arrival at Old Trafford, he has fallen down the pecking order. But some clubs are still aware of the Nigerian’s qualities.

Despite rarely being handed pitch time by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ighalo is still “attracting interest” in and outside England, Sky Sports reported.

According to the report, the 31-year-old is now on the radar of two “unnamed” English top-flight clubs. Even more interesting, Ighalo also has overseas suitors as clubs from Qatar and Saudi Arabia are keen on tapping the Red Devils striker.

Ighalo’s current loan deal with Manchester United is due to expire on January 31, and his parent club Shanghai Shenhua is expecting him to return afterwards.

However, the report noted that the former Watford star is “happy” to part ways with the Chinese side and is open to finding a new team.

This past June, the Red Devils decided to extend Ighalo’s loan deal after a series of impressive performances. Since January last year, he has scored a total of five goals in 20 appearances.

But Cavani, who has catapulted to starting line-up, has seen his fellow striker left out.

This season, Ighalo has not tasted a single Premier League start for Manchester United and has only been called up four times.

Cavani, on the other hand, has emerged as a value-for-money signing for the Red Devils. In fact, Solskjaer is convinced that the veteran forward can “handle” the legacy of Manchester United’s No. 7 shirt, an iconic number worn by Old Trafford’s all-time greats such as Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

"He is definitely a starter," Solskjaer recently said of Cavani. "You don't classify a player of that quality as anything else. He will probably start more games than he will not start.”

“The first thing he asked me when I spoke to him was if he could wear the No. 7,” the manager continued. “When you think of the history of his career and the experience he has had, his personality from the chat I had with him and when I watched him before, it wasn't in doubt that he could handle the number seven shirt. He has made a great impact when he has come here.”
