  • Liverpool thrashed Man Utd 5-0 at Old Trafford
  • Manchester United are currently seventh in the league table

Marcus Rashford has said he is “embarrassed” of Manchester United’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Sunday.

Rashford, who took a few days to react to Manchester United’s horrendous show in front of their fans at Old Trafford, put up a social media post for the Red Devils fans.

"I can’t lie you haven’t heard from me on here because as a United fan I didn’t really know what to say after Sunday. I was embarrassed. I am embarrassed. Our fans are everything and you didn’t deserve that. We’re working hard to try and fix this. We have to redeem ourselves," Rashford tweeted to his fans on social media.

Rashford returned from an injury earlier this month and, after scoring in consecutive matches against Leicester City and Atalanta, he was included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI against Liverpool. As the Old Trafford side was humiliated by the Merseysiders, Rashford, since then, has kept a low profile on social media.

Solskjaer was already under immense pressure as Manchester United had dropped points thrice in their last four league games. The 5-0 loss has made matters worse for the former Molde boss. It has been reported that the club has decided not to sack Solskjaer immediately but give their former player a deadline of three matches.

Manchester United’s results in their upcoming fixtures against Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City are believed to be decisive for Solskjaer, who has been the club’s head coach since December 2018.

With 14 points from nine matches, Manchester United have dropped to seventh place in the 2021-22 Premier League table.

Solskjaer’s side will travel to London to take on Spurs in the Premier League on Saturday. One Red Devil player that is definitely out of the clash is Paul Pogba, who received a red card in the Liverpool game for his nasty foul on Naby Keita. He faces a three-match suspension, meaning, Pogba will miss Manchester United’s clashes with Spurs, City and Watford.

It has also been reported that Pogba is furious with Solskjaer for benching him for the Liverpool match. After the game, Pogba apologized to his teammates for his recklessness but snubbed Solskjaer and as a result, he may have stalled his contract talks with the club. Pogba’s current deal is due to expire in 2022.
