Manchester United’s $122M Midfielder Hints He’ll Not Leave Club After They Secure Champions League Spot

Paul Pogba has hinted that he will stay at Old Trafford after Manchester United secured the Champions League spot for next season.

In a must-win game against Leicester City, Man Utd claimed a 2-0 victory and finished third in the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea. Leicester, who were in the top four for the majority of the season, slipped to fifth place. However, Brendan Rodgers’ side can still play the Champions League in 2020-21, provided Man Utd won the Europa League this season or Frank Lampard’s Chelsea clinched the Champions League title next month.

Pogba, who had reportedly requested the Red Devils twice in the last two years to leave the club, is now expected to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer.

Pogba is also aware that due to the coronavirus pandemic, no club can afford his release clause and wages at Man Utd. That along with Man Utd’s Champions League qualification is believed to have changed Pogba’s mind.

Pogba’s latest post on social media may be simply about Man Utd’s return to the Champions League, but many Red Devils fans are considering the message as a new hope suggesting Pogba will not leave the club at the upcoming summer transfer market.

"Let’s goooooo Champions League baby," wrote Pogba on his Instagram profile after Man Utd’s 2-0 win in their Premier League season finale match over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Pogba, who first played for Man Utd in 2011, moved to Juventus the following year. He had a great run in Italy having scored 34 goals in as many as 178 appearances for the "Old Lady". In 2016, Pogba returned to Old Trafford for a then-record fee of $122 million. While the Frenchman still has a year left in his current contract with Man Utd, the club can extend it by another 12 months, so Pogba effectively has two more years to run.

In fact, it was earlier reported that Pogba is keen on signing a new contract with Man Utd and the club is expected to announce the new deal by the end of the 2019-20 season as they are still alive in the Europa League.
