KEY POINTS

  • Manchester United survived early scares to beat the Wolverhampton Wanderers, 1-0
  • David de Gea starred in the win as he kept a clean sheet
  • The Spaniard is ecstatic to have Cristiano Ronaldo back

In a transfer window that saw Lionel Messi leave Barcelona, his eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo has also changed sceneries from Italy back to England.

The Portuguese star was reported to have agreed to terms for Manchester City, only to spurn them a couple of hours later and opt to re-join Manchester United.

Manchester United fans were very much elated to hear the news as a move to their cross-town rival--with a player of his caliber--is unheard of in the soccer world.

The club was able to net three points this weekend and move up to third in the English Premier League table after a 1-0 away victory against the Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium yesterday.

David de Gea was the undisputed man of the match as he made several fine saves throughout the match and frustrated the Wolverhampton Wanderers’ offense on their many fine opportunities to score.

Following the match, the Spaniard de Gea was asked about Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford and he is more than ecstatic to have him back on their side.

"It's like a dream to have him back, it will be great--it's already great, you can feel it in the atmosphere. Hopefully, he can bring something special to make the team even better,” said de Gea.

Fellow summer transfer signees Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane both made their first-team appearance during the match, but Sancho played poorly and was subbed for Anthony Martial in the second half.

Manchester United survived many early scares from the Wolverhampton Wanderers’ offense led by de Gea’s Spanish national teammate Adama Traore, but he made timely saves to keep the clean sheet for his club.

"It's good to win, but now it's time to play for titles," he mentioned. "Records are okay, but you have to go for titles. We didn't play so well, but it's a massive win for us."

Ronaldo is expected to make an appearance when they face Newcastle United at home on Saturday, September 11.
