'The Mandalorian' Season 2: Extended Universe Story That Explains Boba Fett's Return
KEY POINTS
- Boba Fett is expected to return in "The Mandalorian" Season 2
- The bounty hunter was presumed to be dead
- Fett may be a rival of Din Djarin
With Boba Fett set to return in “The Mandalorians” Season 2, the show will have to explain how the character survived the events in the original trilogy movies. The bounty hunter was presumed dead, but a story in the Extended Universe, which was later categorized as non-canon, explained how he survived.
In the film “Return of the Jedi,” Boba Fett fell into the Sarlaac Pit and everyone thought he was dead. It has already been established that the desert monster takes hundreds of years to slowly digest its prey and it enjoys the process of not just consuming its victims but it also absorbs their consciousness.
A short story released in 1995 explains how Boba Fett managed to get away from this dangerous creature, CBR reported. In the story “A Brave Like That,” Fett speaks to Susejo inside the Sarlaac. Susejo was a telepath who was consumed by the creature many years ago and the two shared a symbiotic relationship.
Sensing the weakness of the symbiotic relationship, Fett hurled insults at Susejo knowing that it would also affect Sarlaac. The constant movement of the creature because of its anger helped the bounty hunter to free his foot and ignite his jetpack, which exploded inside the digestive system of the Sarlaac. The explosion allowed Fett to crawl out of the pit barely alive.
“The Mandalorian” Season 2 could explain Boba Fett’s history with a reference about him surviving the Sarlaac Pit. According to a theory by IGN, the plot of the show could be about the veteran bounty hunter’s rivalry with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). Fett could also try and claim the prize on The Child’s head by taking Baby Yoda from Din.
Din may get to meet multiple important characters from “The Clone Wars” in the next season. Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan are just some of the new characters the fans are excited about. According to CBR, there is a new rumor that the trooper Rex will make his live-action debut on the show this year.
“The Mandalorian” Season 2 is set to be released in October on Disney+. An exact release date is yet to be announced.
