'The Mandalorian' Season 2 Theory: How Moff Gideon Stole The Darksaber
KEY POINTS
- The Darksaber may play an important role in "The Mandalorian" Season 2
- Moff Gideon was last seen with the Darksaber
- The backstory of the Jedi weapon has been revealed
“The Mandalorian” Season 2 is expected to explore the backstory of the villain Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in detail. The character was last seen emerging out of a fallen TIE fighter with a Darksaber, which is an important artifact in the “Star Wars” galaxy.
The official Star Wars website has shared some details about the history of the Darksaber. The weapon was first introduced in the “Clone Wars” animation series as the lightsaber of Tarre Vizsla, who was the first and only Mandalorian to become a Jedi.
The House Vizsla used the Darksaber to unify the various factions on Mandalore and rule. Many years later when the planet fell into civil war, the Jedi artifact was once again used as a symbol of power and a unifying force. The last ruler to use this weapon was Bo-Katan Kryze.
How did Gideon get the Darksaber? The show has already teased how the Empire took control of Mandalore after a devastating attack known as “The Great Purge.” Gideon was personally involved in this attack.
According to a theory by Screen Rant, Gideon may have looted the planet after the Empire’s victory and taken possession of all its wealth. This would explain how they have access to so much high quality Beskar Steel.
The gunfighter played by Pedro Pascal knows Gideon’s involvement in The Great Purge. The Mando’s name is Din Djarin, and he may reveal what happened to his planet and his people when the show returns. So far, the TV series has hinted that the people from the planet are scattered throughout the galaxy and they are all living in hiding.
“The Mandalorian” Season 2 will be released in October on Disney+, IGN reported. Production is currently ongoing, and the exact release date may be announced after the filming wraps.
