KEY POINTS

  • Simon Pegg wants to play Dengar in “The Mandalorian”

  • He has voiced the character in “The Clone Wars”

  • Dengar was first seen in the film “The Empire Strikes Back”

“The Mandalorian” Season 2 will be introducing multiple new characters, including a few established characters that have appeared in the animations shows from the franchise. Simon Pegg, who was voiced Dengar before, wants to be a part of the live-action TV series as the infamous bounty hunter.

When the first trailers of “The Mandalorian” were released online there was a lot excitement about the assassin droid that looked a lot like the one seen in “The Empire Strikes Back.” However, the TV series was not bringing back IG-88, and instead it introduced the new character IG-11. However, the show has been hinting about the Clone Wars and will be bringing in characters from the animation series this year.

Pegg has already voiced the character Dengar in “The Clone Wars” and the video game “Star Wars: Battlefront.” The bounty hunter was part of the group that Darth Vader (David Prowse) hired to track down the Millennium Flacon ship. In a recent interview with Collider, Pegg expressed his interest in reprising his role in “The Mandalorian” TV series.

The live action TV series was created by Jon Favreau, and Pegg said that he has mentioned his interest in playing Dengar to the showrunner as well as to the director Taika Waititi. He apparently told them that if they ever consider bringing in Dengar on the show, he has some experience with the character.

Katee Sackhoff will be appearing on the show after voicing the character Bo-Katan, and Pegg is ready to do the same with Dengar. Some of the other popular characters from the animation series who will be appearing in the TV series are Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), IGN reported.

Although the introduction of these major characters can give “Star Wars” fans a sense of nostalgia, these characters may not be getting too much airtime. According to Screen Rant, the producers may bring in these new cast members one at a time for a different episode.

“The Mandalorian” Season 2 is set to be released in October on Disney+. The producers are yet to announce an exact release date.
