'The Mandalorian' Will Focus On Dark 'Mad Max' Aspect Of 'Star Wars'
“The Mandalorian” will be a dark, “Mad Max” kind of a series, according to Jon Favreau. In a recent interview, the showrunner talked about what his goal was in making the first “Star Wars” live-action series and how he went about trying to achieve that goal.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Favreau teased that he was always fascinated with the idea of showing a “darker, freakier” side of “Star Wars.” This is exactly what he is trying to do with the upcoming live-action series. The plot is about a lone gunfighter operating in a lawless world after the fall of the Empire.
The promo material that has been released so far teases Pedro Pascal’s character working on a desert planet, much like Tatooine. Favreau said that he was trying to “evoke the aesthetics” of the first film in the original trilogy in the TV series.
Favreau explored questions like what it would be like on the planet Tatooine. He was also inspired by the Cantina scene in the first film. In “The Mandalorian,” the showrunner has attemped to recreate the world from the first scene in “A New Hope.”
Another important aspect of the show is the use of the latest technology and filmmaking techniques. Favreau said that he applied his learnings from making “The Lion King” while filming the “Star Wars” TV series. He used the game engine technology from the film and other techniques that helped speed up production thanks to real-time rendering of the graphics.
Apart from using the latest technology, the directors of the TV series were also given a lot of freedom. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, director Bryce Dallas Howard said that she was shocked to see how much the producers trusted the directors to do what they wanted.
Fans will be able to see the end result of all the hard work when the first trailer of “The Mandalorian” is released online. A video is expected to be released at the D23 event this weekend, Screen Rant reported.
