Australian fighter and former Manny Pacquiao tormentor Jeff Horn has some bold claims regarding the Filipino legend’s current standing among the top welterweights in the world. With the Pacman being pitted against fellow champion Terence Crawford in a potential mega bout, Horn said the fighting senator is at a disadvantage and claimed that the undefeated American is the best welterweight there is in boxing today.
Horn, who has shared the ring with both fighters, respectively, gave the edge to Crawford, saying the 32-year-old’s boxing IQ would simply outweigh Pacquiao’s patented aggression.
“Pacquiao is intense but Crawford’s a smart dude. If Pacquiao was to rush at him like he would probably do to me, Crawford could possibly outbox him,” Horn told Fight Hub TV.
“It’s a very interesting fight because styles do make fights and Crawford knows he is going to come at him, he is going to be in with boxing skills but it’s a hard one to answer.
“I think Crawford is probably the best in the welterweight division at the moment.”
Horn’s clash with Pacquiao in Australia back in 2017 ended in a unanimous decision victory for the Aussie. To his dismay, though, the fighting schoolteacher continues to be mocked as the result of the said bout remains one of the most controversial finishes in boxing history.
He then faced Crawford a year later to defend the WBO world welterweight title. But the more skilled American simply delivered a boxing clinic on Horn, who lost his belt via a ninth-round technical knockout loss.
Horn placed emphasis on Crawford’s versatility as he clarified that his past defeat against Bud has nothing to do with his prediction.
“It’s hard for people to listen and believe because I fought him and got beaten by him, so they might say he’s just saying that because he lost,” Hord said,
“He is a very talented fighter and boxer and he’s smart in there as well. He is not a dumb fighter; he knows what to do and that’s what makes him a great fighter.”
Horn is bracing for his own return as he is scheduled to fight the undefeated Tim Tszyu on August 26 at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, Australia.
