KEY POINTS

  • Man Utd were held to a 2-2 draw by Leeds
  • Rashford and Sancho scored for Man Utd
  • The two sides will meet once again Sunday at Elland Road

Jadon Sancho's goal on Wednesday left the entire Old Trafford pumped up and Marcus Rashford, who was with him on the field, was no different.

Sancho spent nearly three months away from Manchester United's first team as he was battling physical and mental issues. Boss Erik ten Hag at one point said the England winger was not fit enough to play.

The 22-year-old winger finally returned to action as he made a brief appearance in Manchester United's semi-final win against Nottingham Forest on Feb. 1. However, he made an instant impact when he came off the bench when Manchester United were 0-2 down at Old Trafford in their Premier League clash with Leeds.

After Rashford pulled one back for the Red Devils with his 62nd-minute goal, Sancho netted the equalizer a few minutes later. An overjoyed Sancho ran to celebrate, with Rashford, Luke Shaw and other players right after him as they embraced the player.

Later on, Rashford took to social media to share a picture of that memorable moment with a little heart emoji.

While it was Sancho's first league goal since September, Rashford became the first Manchester United player to score in six consecutive appearances at Old Trafford in the Premier League since Wayne Rooney in April 2012. Overall, Rashford has netted 20 goals and eight assists in 31 matches for the Red Devils in all competitions this season.

Manchester United boss Ten Hag, meanwhile, did not hold back his words as he showered praises on Sancho.

"I am pleased and proud he did it. It is clear it is a difficult period but he finds himself out and he needs credit for that. He is a brilliant footballer and if he can invest in the right levels he can be outstanding. I will back him, the coaches will and the team will but finally he has to do it himself," Ten Hag told reporters.

When Sancho started struggling in the second half of last year, Ten Hag created an individual program for the young Englishman. He also trained in the Netherlands with a few coaches who were closely associated with his Dutch manager. Sancho took the Netherlands trip when the rest of the Red Devils squad went to Cadiz for a warm-weather training camp.

Manchester United are third in the Premier League table. Their next league outing is also against Leeds. It is a reverse fixture as Ten Hag and Co. will travel to Elland Road for the match on Sunday.
