Mariah Carey Declares 'It's Time' For Christmas With Pumpkin Smash Video
Mariah Carey announced "it’s time" for Christmas at exactly 12 a.m. ET on Monday, backing up her title as the “Queen of Christmas.”
Carey posted a video on Twitter that starts off Halloween-themed and displays three pumpkins carved to say, “it’s not time.” Dressed in red, she takes a candy cane-striped baseball bat and smashes the “not” pumpkin, changing it to read “it’s time” to celebrate the start of the Christmas season on Nov. 1.
The scene then changes to Carey surrounded by Christmas decorations while throwing snow and holding ornaments while her famous song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” plays in the background.
Carey ended the video with a quote that said, “It’s time!! To smash that pumpkin and treat it as pie… cause we still gotta get through Thanksgiving.”
Carey’s popular Christmas-themed album “Merry Christmas” was released in 1994 and includes an array of her Christmas classics that are now recognized as staples for the holiday. Carey, 52, was only 24 at the time of its release.
An estimate from The Economist in 2016 reported that Carey has earned over $60 million from her “All I Want From Christmas Is You.” The song has been bringing in royalties for over half of her life and is also the most streamed Christmas song of all time on Spotify.
