Mariah Carey, James Packer Engaged: Australian Billionaire Pops The Question With 35-Carat Ring [PHOTO]
Congratulations are in order for Mariah Carey and James Packer. The pair, who have been dating for around 10 months, got engaged Thursday evening. As exciting as that is, it's the "Obsessed" singer's ring that the internet can't stop buzzing about.
According to a report from E! Online, Packer, 48, picked out the perfect pre-wedding bling for his bride-to-be. The publication reports he got down one knee in a swanky New York City restaurant, gifting Carey, 45, with a massive 35-carat ring. Photos posted on TMZ, snapped after the engagement, suggest the ring's main stone is ovular or rectangular in shape. It remains unclear how much Carey's engagement ring set the Australian billionaire back.
Although the couple has not been together long, their relationship has moved quickly. In November 2015 TMZ reported that Carey had moved in with her beau in his over-the-top Beverly Hills home. The Grammy award-winner is said to have taken all of her belongings, down to the bedroom furniture from her home, with her for the move. Around that same time sources told Mirror that Packer was hopeful that he and Carey would be married in the not-so distant future.
Prior to their big move, the couple's romance sparked plenty of rumors. In August Carey was forced to speak out amid claims she was expecting her third child, this time with Packer. The stories originated in an Australian tabloid called New Ideas, which claimed that the soulful songstress had learned she was pregnant not long before the reports surfaced and was "overjoyed." It was later reported that there was no truth to those claims.
Both Carey and her new boo have children from previous marriages. She has twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-husband Nick Cannon and Packer has three children, Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle Packer. This will be both spouses third marriage. Carey has yet to share photos or further details about their engagement.
