Mariah Carey’s Ex Nick Cannon Talks About Their Relationship, Marriage Before Divorce

Mariah Carey’s ex-husband Nick Cannon opened up about their relationship and marriage before they divorced.

Cannon had always known that he wanted to work in the entertainment industry, but he never wanted to be famous. He got the limelight when he married pop superstar Mariah Carey. Their weeks-long courtship ended in marriage which surprised their families and friends.

Cannon and Carey tied the knot in April 2008. However, they parted ways in 2014 and were formally divorced in 2016.

Looking back at his marriage with the “Hero” hitmaker, Cannon said that it worked well.

“I always used to say it worked so well because it was a healthy balance,” Cannon told Variety.

“I had no problem falling back. It was never a competition with me. It was like ‘I’ll turn mine off so she can turn hers on.’ I was comfortable in myself and who I was.”

In fact, according to him, he couldn’t remember them having arguments and negative energy. All he could remember was their “sensible conversations.”

Many also witnessed how Cannon was very dedicated to Carey and supportive of her career when they were still together.

“When she was around, he knew it had to always be all about her. He did that incredibly elegantly,” one longtime business associate said.

Cannon also admitted that there was no competition between them when it comes to whose star was rising or falling. They never had issues about popularity.

“My ego outside the house was grand but in the house it was healthy. I was there to be in support of whatever she wanted to do,” he added.

“I mean, it’s Mariah Carey. How am I supposed to be? She’s one of the most talented women to ever [walk] this planet. I can’t hold a candle to that woman.”

The exes share 9-year-old twins daughter Monroe and son Moroccan. “The Masked Singer” host also said in a previous interview that their separation had nothing to do with infidelity because he was a one-woman man during their marriage.

“I think I’ll never be able to be with just one woman again. I did it in marriage, I was very faithful in my marriage. The reason why we split up had nothing to do with infidelity, nothing like that,” he said.

At present, Cannon is dating Jessica White. They have an on-again, off-again relationship since 2015. Just recently, the model shared an intimate photo of her with Cannon on Instagram and called him “the love of my life always.”
