Marilyn Manson has a net worth of $10 million. Here’s how the rock star built his massive fortune.
The musician is the lead singer of the goth-rock band named after him, Marilyn Manson. Born Brian Warner, Manson’s interest in music began at an early age. Listening to Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor heavily influenced the rock star’s career. In fact, it was Reznor who produced Marilyn Manson’s first album, “Portrait of an American Family,” according to Celebrity Net Worth.
The band was co-founded by Manson and the late guitarist Scott Putesky in Florida in 1989. They adopted stage names that were a combination of Hollywood sex symbols and serial killers: Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz. There have been several band members who came and went over the years, including keyboard player Madonna Wayne Gacy and guitarist John 5.
The band's debut album earned them attention and criticism at the time. Marilyn Manson then released in 1995 its first EP, “Smells Like Children,” which became a commercial success, selling over a million copies in the U.S. alone. It features the band's famous cover of the Eurythmics' hit song from the early 1980s, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).”
With a growing fanbase in the U.S. and abroad, the band soon faced increased scrutiny due to songs containing explicit lyrics peppered with “nihilism.” Manson experimented with styles and tried industrial metal, Nu Metal, electronic, hard punk and blues and rock, among others. His band would go on to release other critically acclaimed albums such as “Eat Me, Drink Me,” “The Pale Emperor” and “Heaven Upside Down.”
When not busy making albums, Manson appears in movies and TV shows. He has been seen in movies such as “Let Me Make You a Martyr” and “Jawbreaker” and series like “Sons of Anarchy,” “American Gods” and “The New Pope.”
On the personal side, the Canton, Ohio native previously dated Dita Von Teese, Rose McGowan and Evan Rachel Wood. The “Westworld” actress recently accused her ex-fiancé of allegedly subjecting her to years of abuse. Four other women also came forward Monday to detail abuse allegations against Manson, Vanity Fair reported.
The 52-year-old has been accused of sex crimes as early as 2011. But the case was not pursued due to statute of limitations. Representatives of the singer-songwriter categorically denied all allegations made against him in 2018. Manson also recently shut down Wood's abuse allegations, calling them “horrible distortions of reality.”
It remains to be seen how this will affect the career of Marilyn Manson moving forward and whether or not the band will take a hiatus. The rock star has been dropped by his label, Loma Vista Recordings, after the allegations surfaced, Billboard reported. Loma Vista and Manson started to work together in 2015.
