Marilyn Monroe’s Giant Statue in Iconic Dress from 'Seven Year Itch' Unveiled in Chicago (PHOTOS)
Marilyn Monroe is a name that refuses to die. And now, the Hollywood actress’ most endearing onscreen image has been sculpted.
A long-awaited 26-foot-tall statue of Marilyn Monroe was unveiled in Chicago on Friday. The sculpture Forever Marilyn by artist Seward Johnson is based on a scene from the movie ‘Seven Year Itch’ and will be on display until next spring, Reuters reported.
A scene from the film shot atop a New York City subway vent, in which Monroe’s white dress is fluttered upward by gushing air from a passing train made the actress a superstar.
The image of the actress in the particular scene and her white dress, which is considered an all-time fashion moment worldwide, has been depicted in the sculpture.
The ivory-pleated 'Subway' dress was sold for $4.6 million at an auction in Los Angeles in June.
