Mark Hamill Asks Question We Should All Be Asking In Trump Impeachment Saga
KEY POINTS
- Actor Mark Hamill tweets skepticism of Trump’s innocence in the impeachment saga
- Hamill is a frequent critic of the President’s language and policies
- He also told voters to “buckle up” for a “make-or-break” 2020 vote
Leave it to a Jedi master to apply logic, reason and wisdom to the often chaotic and unbalanced impeachment saga of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Actor Mark Hamill kicked off 2020 by asking a probing yet a strikingly simple question about Trump’s involvement in the Ukraine scandal: “Why would an innocent man bar witnesses who could exonerate him?”
Hamill is best known for his portrayal of the iconic Star Wars character and Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films. He currently has over 3.5 million followers on Twitter and is a frequent critic of Trump’s policies and rhetoric.
A report by Huffington Post suggests that the tweet refers to Trump and Senate Majority Leader McConnell’s apparent coordination in barring key witnesses from testifying before the Senate in the upcoming trial.
McConnell is refusing to allow critical witnesses, including former national security adviser John Bolton, to testify in Trump’s trial because he sees it “as an opening for uncertainty, The New York Times reported.
Democrats believe these witnesses have critical knowledge of an alleged quid pro quo between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that involves a promise of military aid in exchange for investigation of Democratic primary frontrunner Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
Hamill also urged Americans to “buckle up” for 2020, calling it a “make-or-break year in which our country either reclaims normalcy or doubles down on the crazy.”
It’s hard to disagree with at least part of Hamill’s 2020 forecast, as we begin the year with a legislative standoff between McConnell and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the impeachment saga. Pelosi has yet to release the Articles of Impeachment approved by Congress in December, citing concerns over bias and rule manipulation from the Republican-controlled Senate.
In the meantime, McConnell has freely admitted to coordinating with the Trump administration in Trump’s defense.
