Mark Salling Allegedly Apologizes To Rape, STD Victim In Leaked Audio
Mark Salling apologized to his alleged rape victim in new leaked audio Wednesday. The year-old audio, which was obtained by investigative journalist Liz Crokin, details an apparent phone conversation between Salling and the ex-girlfriend he had allegedly raped.
Jennie Marie Pacelli, Salling's former girlfriend, alleged that Salling gave her Chlamydia after he forcibly took her virginity. The "Glee" alum was reportedly confronted by Pacelli over the phone to determine if the actor was sorry for his alleged behavior. Salling's confusion in the audio led him to repeatedly ask for the caller's identification, but Crokin alleges that he may have been intoxicated during the conversation.
"You know who I am. You took my virginity. I just want you to just admit it," Pacelli said to Salling in the audio. "I just want you to just apologize — it's all I need from you, just one apology. That's it."
"Okay, I'm sorry," the caller responded.
"Do you know what you're sorry for? You can't just say sorry," Pacelli asked. "That first time that we did it, pretty much ruined the rest of my life. I didn't want to do it really. I was just coming off my cousin dying, and all that stuff. I just need you to be sorry that you let it happen and that you did that."
The caller responded, saying, "I'm sorry." Pacelli continued the conversation, thereafter, by alleging that he had taken advantage of her. The caller did admit to doing so before apologizing a second time.
Pacelli filed a police report with the Los Angeles County District Attorney in October 2016 that alleged Salling sexually assaulted her. The complaint was dropped, despite Pacelli appearing to be "credible and accurate." The delayed report was cited as a reason for the complaint's dismissal.
"She appeared very emotional over the trauma inflicted upon her and presents as a credible and accurate historian of the events surrounding the rape," Deputy District Attorney Emily T. Spear, who interviewed Pacelli, told the Huffington Post in October 2016. "Given the delay in reporting the crime, suspect’s apparent denial of the rape in victim's pretext to call him and lack of other corroboration, there is insufficient evidence, at this time, to file this case."
Roxanne Gorzela, another former girlfriend of Salling's, also filed a report against the actor in March 2011. Gorzela claimed that Salling had forced her to have sexual relations without a condom, which is said to have allegedly resulted in an STD. Salling was sued by Gorzela for sexual battery thereafter. He settled the case for $2.7 million in 2015.
The apparent leaked audio follows Salling's controversial child pornography trial. Salling pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. He faces four to seven years in prison with 20 years of supervision upon his release. Salling is also required to register as a sex offender and pay $50,000 in reparations to victims who request it.
Salling's decision to plead guilty allowed him to avoid the maximum sentence of 20 years. According to court documents obtained by The Guardian, he said: "I am pleading guilty because I am guilty of the charges and wish to take advantage of the promises set forth in this agreement."
Salling was first arrested for owning child pornography in December 2015. His Los Angeles residence was searched by the Los Angeles Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, which discovered child pornography on his laptop and a USB flash drive.
