Mark and Donnie Wahlberg are mourning the loss of their mother Alma Wahlberg, who passed away at age 78, taking to social media to celebrate her life.

Mark and Donnie broke the news via Instagram Sunday that their mother, who appeared with several of her kids on the A&E reality show "Wahlburgers," had died following a long battle with dementia, E! News reported.

Mark, 49, shared a throwback photo of his mom. "My angel. Rest in peace," Alma's youngest son wrote on Instagram.

Donnie also posted a touching tribute for their mom on his page. He shared a clip in honor of the family matriarch and wrote about how their mom inspired and motivated him to be a great person.

"I’m so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by and set on my life’s path by, such an amazing woman," Donnie wrote.

"My mom Alma’s joy for life, love and people — combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from — undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am. I’ve often said, if you like anything about me, I got it from Alma. I say that, because it’s true," he continued.

Donnie described their mom as "the most loving human being" he has ever known, sharing that he never heard her say anything disrespectful to anyone. He also noted that she usually did things with a smile and "made the best of times in the worst of times."

According to Donnie, Alma was a tough mom. She taught them what's right and made them pay the price when they were wrong. And for him, their mother "was the epitome of the word grace."

Donnie said he used to sing Odyssey's "Native New Yorker" with their mom when he was a young boy as they cleaned their house. Alma's other favorite song was "If I Could" by Regina Belle, it was the song she danced to with each of her children at their wedding, so he surprised her with it on his wedding day.

"I did so because, despite the fact that my mom could do (and actually did) many of the things mentioned in that beautiful song, she still wondered if she’d done the job of being the best mother she could be. Today, I say with tremendous certainty, and gratitude, she absolutely did," he continued.

"It’s time to rest peacefully, mom. I love you, miss you, thank you and will celebrate you, today and always. Forever — your Baby Donnie," he concluded.

Alma was the mother of nine children: Arthur, Paul, Jim, Robert, Donnie, Mark, Michelle, Debbie and Tracey. Her husband of 17 years, Donald Wahlberg, died in 2008. Their daughter, Debbie, passed away in 2003.
