‘Married At First Sight’ Spoilers: Surprise Break Up And Reunion Revealed
The “Married at First Sight” Season 9 reunion was highly anticipated. While the finale of the Lifetime reality show reveals some divorces, it’s the reunion that reveals which couples will really stay together and get divorced. So who is still together and who is getting divorced?
Iris and Keith
Iris Caldwell cries as she watches the recap of their marriage because she obviously wanted to stay married. Iris was upset that she and Keith Manley split, but happy she participated. She wishes she would’ve dug a little deeper into his issues with her virginity.
Keith explains that he wants to be with someone who knew herself in a sexual way before marriage. Iris admits that she wanted to have sex with Keith as her husband, and she was hoping to get to explore that side of her for the first time with him. Keith goes on to say that even her reaction to condoms showed her immaturity.
Iris is shocked. She feels like he never really explained this to her, and Keith reasons that there was no reason to say it. She can’t change her level of experience and maturity in eight weeks, but Iris counters that their marriage could’ve been longer.
Iris and Keith clearly don’t see eye-to-eye and that’s frustrating. Iris still wants to be married and is willing to go to therapy. Keith isn’t so sure, though. They keep in touch and he has previously told Iris to move on. He doesn’t feel like she’s ready to be a wife (she disagrees), so he says no, they won’t be getting back together.
Greg and Deonna
These two are still married. Deonna McNeill reveals that she said, “I love you” first, but Greg Okotie didn’t say it back. He finally said it in a moment where Deonna had stayed calm and found some things he’d misplaced in a panic.
They moved into Greg’s house and revealed their family is expanding—because they’re expecting a nephew. They think they’ll have their own babies in a couple years.
Matt and Amber
These two chose divorce on decision day after Matt Gwynne allegedly cheated. Matt admits that in the first 15 minutes of marriage he knew that they weren’t going to work. He never said anything because he thought they could work through their issues.
He claims he never cheated and wasn’t living a double life. Amber Bowles says that one of Matt’s own friends came forward and said he was cheating. She says she actually heard from about 10 different people that he was unfaithful. Matt claims the woman he was seen with was just a friend, and Amber says the woman actually reached out to say she feels bad.
Matt is asked if he ever had sex with another woman during their marriage, and he says no. Amber believes him. She asks for an apology, and her ex apologizes “if” he hurt her. She wants him to be more real, though. They need to figure out how to be cordial in case they run into each other.
Amber is doing well, though. She just got a new apartment on her own and got a dog. She’s back in the dating game, and she thinks she’ll find love again.
Jamie and Elizabeth
This explosive couple decided to stay married in the finale, and the reunion kicked off with Jamie Thompson and Beth Bice watching a recap of their rollercoaster marriage. They say that trying to mix their separate lives after filming, moving into Jamie’s place and a serious illness for her dog caused a lot of stress. They decided to break up.
Their post-filming break up is not their only surprise. They decided to give it another shot and get back together. They had to figure out how to develop a stable, healthy relationship. Jame and Beth are still together.
Group Interview
As usual, all the “Married at First Sight” couples come together to give their final thoughts on the season.
Deonna and Beth are both surprised Iris and Keith divorced.
Meanwhile, things get awkward when the couples say they were surprised by how Beth and Jamie spoke to each other in public. They understood it came from a place of passion, though. When Jamie comments on the situation, Beth isn’t happy. “It’s like you kind of question how we’re still together almost. Oh my god, wow,” Beth says.
Watching the clips brings back some emotions. Beth says the show didn’t tell the whole story, but she refuses to answer questions about it. Looking back seems to be too painful for her.
Iris’ virginity, of course, comes up again. The group says they were all surprised. Being a divorced virgin makes her even more of a rarity.
Then it’s time to discuss Matt and Amber’s dissolution. The women agree that they knew more about the cracks in the marriage, and Beth reveals that she had mutual friends with the couple. She at one point had to deliver some news to Amber that she was less than thrilled about. She opts to keep that private though, knowing Amber has been humiliated enough.
Matt says he’s glad people were there for Amber, and he cares about her. He just doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life with her. Iris says she doesn’t think he was prepared for this. Host Kevin Frazier comments that the boundaries of their marriage never worked, and Matt agrees.
Jamie and Beth have big news to share. The Charlotte, North Carolina, newlyweds are moving to California. They’re getting a new beginning in the Bay Area.
The “Married at First Sight” Season 9 cast has plenty of advice for future couples on the show: pray, be open and honest, communicate, listen to the experts, don’t set your expectations too high. “Have those difficult conversations, right?” Amber asks. Matt stays silent.
At the end, Amber says that although she didn’t get a husband, she found a better version of herself.
“Married at First Sight” Season 10, which takes place in Washington, D.C., will premiere on Lifetime soon.
