‘Married At First Sight’ Star Jamie Otis Reveals Why She Named Her Baby After Miscarriage
Jamie Otis has chosen to grieve her miscarriage publicly. The “Married at First Sight” star has been updating fans often since she announced that she lost her baby last week, and now she has given followers insight into her latest coping method: naming her child.
On her official blog, Jamie wrote that she is trying to move on, but she finds it extremely difficult. “A few people who’ve reached out to us who’ve had a miscarriage said that naming their baby helped them cope,” she said.
Otis revealed that she and her husband Doug Hehner, who met on their wedding day on FYI’s “Married at First Sight” in 2014, decided to name their son Johnathan Edward Hehner.
“We wanted to name our baby the perfect name. A name that is full of meaning, warmth, and love. He deserves a beautiful name to be remembered by,” the labor and delivery nurse explained. “I began searching online for different little boy names and their meaning. When I read that Johnathan means ‘gift from God’ I silently sobbed and rubbed my belly. (I don’t know why I do this when he isn’t in there anymore, but somehow I still feel connected to him in that way.)”
As for the middle name, Edward, Jamie explained that it was Doug’s grandfather’s name as well as Doug’s middle name. “Our firstborn will share daddy’s middle name. I think this is so beautiful and meaningful,” Jamie added.
Jamie and Doug know that fans are invested in their personal lives. They had their marriage chronicled on “Married at First Sight” and “Married at First Sight: The First Year.” Season 2 of the spinoff focused on how much Jamie wanted to get pregnant and ended with Doug finally deciding he was ready for a baby.
The couple announced their miscarriage just a week after revealing Jamie was four months pregnant. “Our Baby Hehner was just too beautiful for earth. I love him so much - ALWAYS will - and can't wait to meet him in heaven one day. Please pray for us,” she said in an Instagram post on July 13.
