‘Marvel vs Capcom Infinite’ Will Be ‘Simplistic,’ Capcom Says
Capcom Europe COO Stuart Turner was interviewed recently and he has shed some light on the development of “Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite.” He said that the game will be “far more simplistic.”
Speaking with GI.biz, Turner was interviewed about how Capcom is able to appeal to a global audience without it compromising the company’s Japanese roots. The conversation later shifted to the poor initial performance of last year’s “Street Fighter V” and how Capcom is still committed to the fighting genre, especially in trying to get new people to play.
“Marvel vs Capcom fits into this as a great introduction to the genre as a whole,” Turner said. “Far more simplistic and technically easier to pick up and play, and obviously having some of the best known characters o the planet from the Marvel universe has huge appeal especially to that younger new audience we’re keen to bring in.”
The Capcom Europe COO’s statements echo the company’s previous sentiments from last year. However, the developer also stressed that “Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite’s” efforts to be more accessible won’t be at the cost of depth, according to GameSpot.
The problem that’s facing Capcom right now is that the fighting genre’s fanbase is older when compared to other games. The developer would have to cater to older gamers, while also making sure that even the younger ones can easily learn and play as well.
"Fighting as a genre is an interesting one," Turner said. "It's an area that we as a company excel in, but it's always one that we need to take more of a lead on for the success and health of the whole genre.”
Turner also believes that the fighting genre can continue to grow especially with the added eSports potential. “The added exposure that eSports now brings will hopefully see growth for the fighting genre over the coming years,” he said.
As for the state of Capcom’s “Street Fighter V,” Turner believes that the game is “in a very good place now.” He also confirmed that it has seasons of content that’s currently lined up and an upcoming Pro Tournament.
