A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot early Sunday and five others were injured in a shooting that took place at a shopping plaza in Maryland, police said. Police were searching for the suspects who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Police found all the victims of the shooting in the parking lot of the shopping center in the 6200 block of Kenwood Ave. Rickie Forehand was pronounced dead at the scene while two 12-year-old boys, a 14-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 19-year old man sustained injuries, Melissa Hyatt, Baltimore County Police Chief, said at a news conference Sunday.
Sergeant Vickie Warehime told WBAL that police were informed about several shots being fired in the mall’s parking lot shortly after midnight. He said it seemed a “pretty big scene” on arrival and that officers were trying to ascertain what happened. “But, with multiple victims at the hospital, it’s going to be an ongoing investigation,” he added.
Police didn’t identify all the injured persons but said they were expected to survive their injuries, adding that one was released from the hospital, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Investigators said the victims were attending an event in the Triple Threat Elite Dance Studio. Several suspects walked up to them and had an altercation with them before firing multiple shots in their direction.
Homicide detectives were interviewing eye-witnesses and searching for any video surveillance in the area to get an accurate account of the incident.
In February, a shooting at the Maryland Heights Community Center in Missouri left two dead, including the suspect. Police asked residents to avoid the nearby area of the shooting while the investigation was ongoing.
