'The Masked Singer' Recap: Leopard, Thingamajig Revealed In Shocking Double Elimination
On Wednesday night, "The Masked Singer" revealed the identities of two performers that fans have come to know as the leopard and thingamajig on Season 2 of the popular Fox singing competition. During the episode, not only did viewers get to find out which stars were behind the masks, but they also got to see all of the characters perform, including the fox, flamingo, and rottweiler.
The first performer of the night was the fox who performed "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway, which can be seen below.
After the song, judge Jenny McCarthy said that she was moved by both his voice and stage presence. On this special holiday episode, each masked singer also gave a present to the judges that would hopefully assist in exposing their true identities. For the fox, it was a picture of the rabbit from Season 1, who was ultimately revealed to be NSYNC singer Joey Fatone.
"My buddy rabbit came by the foxhole and told me that I would have just as great a time as he did, and, boy, was he right," the fox shared after revealing the gift. Robin Thicke said he thought it may be Wayne Brady, while Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger said she believed it could be "Fast and Furious" actor Tyrese Gibson.
The next performance came courtesy of the rottweiler. In the clue package before their performance, the singer shared that normally, at this time of year, they are with their family, but he was glad he made the choice to go on the show as it was "the most present" he had been in a while. A passport was also shared as an additional bit of information.
As for the song choice, they sang The Killers' 2003 hit "Mr. Brightside," which made Jenny say that she believed they deserved to be in the finals. It also inspired Nicole to guess that "Glee" actor Darren Criss is the star's true identity.
Next to take the stage was thingamajig, who stated that they had been forced to overcome a lot of obstacles this year. The contestant sang Bing Crosby's "Winter Wonderland." After taking all of the hints into consideration, which also included an Indiana Jones hat and whip, several of the judges said they believed it was an NBA player. Ken Jeong said he felt confident that it was Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo.
The last woman left in the competition, flamingo, sang fourth. After sharing that she cried when she learned she had made it into the semi-finals, she sang "Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley. Ken guessed that "With You" singer Jessica Simpson was behind all of the pink feathers, but Nicole said she believed it was "Cheetah Girls" star Adrienne Bailon.
Finally, Leopard came out and sang "Big Spender" by Shirley Bassey. Afterward, they shared a blueprint of a home, which inspired both Nicole and Robin to guess that Grammy Award-winning singer Seal would ultimately be revealed.
As for the eliminations, thingamajig was first. Ken, who normally makes incorrect guesses, was right this time as Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo was unmasked. "Ken got one right!" Nicole exclaimed after his guess was proven to be correct.
The second singer to be revealed was the leopard, who did, in fact, turn out to be Seal. As for why the "Kiss from a Rose" artist decided to go on the singing competition, he shared that he thought his kids would love it. Additionally, it was confirmed that he blueprint from earlier was shown as a nod to his background in architecture.
Only three singers now remain in the competition, but viewers will have to wait until next week to see who takes home the title.
"The Masked Singer" Season 2 finale will air Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
