‘MasterChef’ Season 4 Premiere: Joe Bastianich Teases Secret Breast Milk Ingredient; Did Gordon Ramsay Like It?
Fox’s “MasterChef” season 4 premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m. with a special two-hour audition episode. The culinary competition should prove anything but dull when amateur chefs compete in front of judges Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Joe Bastianich with some very unusual ingredients.
What would one of these mystery ingredients be? Breast milk! Bastianich revealed to TV Guide on a conference call that a contestant used her own breast milk as an ingredient in her mac and cheese.
“That was a little controversial,” said the judge. But did he try it? “It was just not something that I was going to taste … I know Gordon and Graham did try it.”
Ramsay is not one to keep quiet about bad dishes, so “MasterChef” viewers will definitely want to tune in to see his reaction. But Bastianich did tease that Ramsay spit it out. “It’s kind of disgusting,” he said.
Besides breast milk, the audience can look forward to the judges eating road kill, reptiles, beaver tail and water bugs. “We ate it all this year,” Bastianich explained. Still bent on the breast milk ordeal, he swore that he would “rather eat insects instead of breast milk.”
According to TV Grape Vine, season 4 will feature 26 chefs vying for the title of Master Chef. Contestants this season include an archaeologist, a former pro-football player and a paralegal.
Wednesday’s premiere will have 40 hopefuls moving onto the next round as they compete in a lamb challenge. Contestants will be judged based on flavor, creativity and presentation.
The winner of “MasterChef” will get a cookbook deal along with $250,000. You can catch the premiere Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
