A graphic video of a matador repeatedly stabbing a bull during a fight surfaced online. The video was released by PETA on Tuesday as it called for a ban on the gruesome sport.

The bull could be seen withering in pain as the matador drove his knife deep into the animal’s skull. PETA shared the video to shed light on the brutality of the bullfighting sport and has decided to launch a petition against the same calling for a ban on the sport.

The organization’s website states, “The panicked animals often slip and crash into walls, resulting in broken bones and other injuries. Later, these same bulls will be barbarically killed in the bullring – a fact many tourists are unaware of.”

It added, “Compassionate people understand that this violence is needless and unjustifiable, and opposition to bullfighting is growing both within Spain and around the world.” PETA also appealed to the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, to “listen to the voices of the people” and ban bullfighting.

The organization added that according to surveys, around 80% of the population opposed the gruesome event. They stated, “It’s time for the Spanish government to step up and protect animals. Please sign our petition to the Prime Minister calling for a national ban on bullfights and bull runs.”

In the letter, PETA highlighted that "Bullfights are immensely cruel events in which thousands of animals are slowly and painfully killed across Spain every year." The organization also said the animals suffer during bull runs as well as they are "harassed" by the mob while running through the streets.
