‘Match Made In Heaven’ Season 2 Star Stevie Baggs Talks Elle’s Issues With His Mom And That Text Message Breakup
Let the games begin on “Match Made in Heaven”! Season 2 of WE tv’s dating reality show kicked off Thursday night with former football pro Stevie Baggs meeting the 18 successful, smart and beautiful women competing for his heart. But Stevie’s looking for “the one,” and he started narrowing his search in the premiere.
By the end of episode 1, Stevie, with the help of his mom, Lola, sent home three contestants. And although Stevie and the ladies just met, the first elimination wasn’t without drama.
Stevie appeared to develop an immediate connection with Elle, a 27-year-old who owns a boutique public relations agency. However, Elle ended up in the bottom three after unknowingly butting heads with Lola, who was undercover for most of the episode as a staff member named Mona. Lola found Elle to be disrespectful and rude. But that wasn’t enough for Stevie to send Elle packing.
“We all need a second chance,” Stevie told International Business Times of his decision to keep Elle around for another week. “We all need an opportunity to prove ourselves. That’s something that I often, and am always reminded of, as someone who has a number of things I’ve messed up on in life. But a mess turns into a message. Mistakes turn into miracles. I’m very thankful to be in a position to be graceful and to give someone a second chance.”
Elle might have survived the week but she’s got to make some changes if she wants a future with Stevie. The 34-year-old told IBT prior to the premiere that whoever he ends up with has to get along with his mom.
“[Lola’s] opinion matters to me because not only is she my mother, but she is also my friend. We’re business partners, we run a nonprofit together and we work together pretty much every day. So whomever I choose is going to have to be able to deal with that dynamic as well.”
“Match Made in Heaven” fans are going to have to wait and see if Elle and Lola can put aside their differences, but one contestant not getting another shot is Tiffany. The 24-year-old flight attendant from New Jersey was too nervous for Stevie to really spark a connection with her. And for that, she was eliminated — via text message. But don’t worry. Text message breakups aren’t really Stevie’s thing.
“If I have a history with you and we’ve already established a connection, it’s different than a breakup on text with someone [I] barely know,” Stevie clarified, adding that his perspective on breakups in “real life” are different from what happens on the show.
“I think it was just one of those things where there was nothing left to talk about. I just didn’t see her being a match.”
Stevie’s journey to find love continues when episode 2 of “Match Made in Heaven” Season 2 airs on WE tv Thursday, May 26, at 10 p.m. EDT.
