  • The NFT video features Madonna giving birth
  • The visuals might seem erotic at first
  • But have a straightforward message, Madonna explains

Pop icon Madonna has announced a three-video NFT (non-fungible token) collaboration called "Mother of Creation" with digital artist Beeple. The NFT featuring a naked Madonna giving birth will be auctioned on SuperRare Wednesday.

Madonna shared a video on Twitter on Tuesday and revealed that the duo began collaborating on her first-ever NFTs a year ago.

“We set out to create something that is absolutely and utterly connected to the idea of creation and motherhood,” Madonna said.

At first, the Madonna x Beeple NFT videos might seem erotic but Madonna explained that the art has a pretty straightforward meaning.

“The opening of each video is essentially me giving birth,” she added. “I’m doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth. But on a more existential level, I’m giving birth to art, and creativity, and we would be lost without both.”

SuperRare also took to Twitter to announce the collaboration going live Wednesday on their platform.

According to the project’s website, the proceeds of the NFT auction will be donated to three charities — The Voices of Children Foundation, which is focused on helping Ukrainian children, The City of Joy, helping female survivors of violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and and Black Mama’s Bail Out, helping incarcerated black women.

NFTs are blockchain-based digital assets that are unique in the sense that their identifying information is recorded in smart contracts. Celebrities globally are increasingly showing interest in NFTs as they are tokenizing everything from artwork, and music to videos to using NFTs.

Pop culture queen Paris Hilton sold her Iconic Crypto Queen NFT in April last year for $1.1million and has a collection of 141 pieces. Rapper Snoop Dogg also released his NFT collection that featured his memories from his early years.

Among other celebrities, Lindsay Lohan, Shawn Mendes, and Emily Ratajkowski have also in some way or another entered the world of NFTs.
