A woman succumbed to snakebite after she mistakenly sat on mating snakes while on a call with her husband. The bizarre incident took place in Gorakhpur, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday.

A family member of the deceased, identified as Gita Yadav, said the pair of snakes entered the home and were mating on the bed while the victim was busy talking on the phone with her husband. Yadav walked into the bedroom talking on the phone and sat on the snakes that were mating on the bed. Moments after the snakes bite her, Yadav screamed for help but immediately fell unconscious.

Yadav was rushed to a nearby hospital with froth coming out of her mouth. She was then transported to a district hospital where she died during treatment.

Dr. Santosh Singh, who attended to the victim, said, “She was brought to my hospital with a snake bite. As her condition worsened, I referred her to the district hospital for treatment. The intensity of the venom suggested that the snakes might be cobras.”

Meanwhile, the victim’s kin said she failed to notice the reptiles because of the printed bed cover and dim light in the bedroom. The kin added that Yadav’s seven-year-old daughter was sleeping in the next room with her grandmother when the incident took place. The snakes were beaten to death by angry locals.

In another bizarre incident in Uttar Pradesh earlier this year, a drunk man bit a snake into pieces after being bitten by the reptile. The man, identified as Raj Kumar, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition while the snake was cremated by his family.

"My son was drunk. A snake entered our home and bit him. He later bit the snake into pieces,” Kumar’s father said.
