'Matrix 4': New Rumors Point To Young Morpheus Role

There has been a lot of excitement ever since “Aquaman” star Yahya Abdul-Mateen was confirmed as a cast member for “Matrix 4.” There have been rumors that the actor will be playing the lead role of Young Morphrus, and now a new report has once again suggested that this is the role the actor will be playing.

Sources close to the production of the upcoming movie told The Illuminerdi that Abdul Mateen will be playing Young Morpheus. The actor is best known for playing the villainous role of Black Manta in “Aquaman,” which he will be reprising for the sequel.

In the original trilogy of the franchise, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) was the one who helped Neo (Keanu Reeves) to escape the dream world the machines had created for humanity. He was also the leader of the rebellion against the machines and the captain of the ship Nebuchadnezzar.

Very little is known about what the plot of “Matrix 4” will be, especially since the war against the machines ended in the third instalment. It also remains to be seen what role a young Morpheus will play in the new story.

Back in October, Variety’s Justin Kroll said on Twitter that his sources confirmed that Abdul-Mateen’s character is connected to Morpheus. However, the insiders added that it would be “inaccurate” to say that the actor is playing Young Morpheus.

According to Kroll’s sources, Abdul-Mateen could be playing a son or a nephew of Morpheus. If the actor is playing the role of a hero from the next generation, it means that the movie will not be a prequel and it will be taking the story forward after the war.

According to a theory by Screen Rant, the original trilogy may exist in the new world created for the upcoming film. The events in the previous movies will be seen as a part of a video game in the upcoming film, which is in line with the deep philosophical take on reality the franchise has.

“The Matrix 4” will be released on May 21, 2021.
