Matt Damon Asks For Prayers For His Dad Kent Who Has Cancer
Matt Damon is urging everyone to pray for his 75-year-old dad, Kent Damon, who is battling cancer.
During a recent interview with Extra TV, the actor revealed that his dad has been sick for the past couple of months. Kent’s illness was also the reason why Damon missed the 2017 BAFTA Britannia Awards in October.
“It’s been a slow, unfolding, my dad’s sick, so that’s been a process we’re going through. We’ll take any prayers you got, so throw ‘em up there,” he said.
According to People, Kent has been battling a rare blood disease called multiple myeloma for the past couple of years. Damon announced that his dad was already in remission in 2011. However, it seems that Kent’s health deteriorated recently.
In October, the actor was supposed to accept the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film. But on the day of the awarding, presenter Kate Mara told the attendees that Damon had to return to hometown in Boston due to a family emergency.
“Unfortunately Matt urgently needed to travel to Boston and couldn’t join us tonight. As much as we wish he was here with us, we know family comes first. So our thoughts are with you, Matt, and much love from your friends here in LA,” she said (via Entertainment Tonight).
Meanwhile, the “Good Will Hunting” star told Boston news outlet WCVB that there’s no cure for his dad’s illness. In the same year, the dad and son tandem attended a celebration for Massachusetts General Hospital, where Kent received his treatments.
While at the event, Kent gushed over his son and said that he’s a good husband and father to his four children. “He’s all you could ever ask for in a son. It’s been a wonderful ride being his dad,” he said.
Damon also admitted at that time that he never thought his dad, who used to be a marathon runner, who be diagnosed with cancer. “We’ve lost some close personal friends to cancer in recent years, but I never thought it would happen to my dad, the marathon runner,” he said.
