Matt Hardy Expects AEW To Give Newcomer Better Booking Than WWE
KEY POINTS
- Matt Hardy expects Cesaro to have a bigger star in AEW
- Cesaro made his debut at Forbidden Door on June 26
- His next feud could likely be with Eddie Kingston
Fan-favorite performer Cesaro has found new life in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) after making his explosive debut at the company’s cross-promotion event with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Forbidden Door, last June 26.
AEW has become the main go-to place for most superstars released from WWE, and Cesaro--now going by his real name Claudio Castagnoli in AEW--becomes one of many to make the jump.
Pro wrestling icon Matt Hardy recently posted the latest episode of his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast and explained why Cesaro is poised for success that eluded him in WWE.
“He will probably get the greatest utilization he’s had in a very long time here in AEW. I think he truly does have the complete package, and I am very excited to see him in AEW, I think he’s going to really enjoy his time here,” Hardy mentioned.
“He’s a guy who really gets it, besides just being a great technical wrestler and scientific wrestler, and he has great strikes, very creative, and very unique in the way he does things.”
Cesaro stepped in for Bryan Danielson at Forbidden Door to take on WWE Cruiserweight Classic semifinalist and five-year NJPW veteran Zack Sabre Jr.
It was a match that showcased the very best of Cesaro’s skills as he stayed in step with the submission hold specialist for most of the 18-minute affair before getting the pinfall victory.
During his time in WWE, fans had been clamoring for Cesaro to get a main event push because of his natural charisma and in-ring resume.
However, it never materialized and was stuck competing for tag team titles alongside Sheamus as “The Bar”– a hard-hitting duo that captured fan interest thanks to their best-of-seven series in 2016.
Cesaro did win the United States Title as a singles performer and held it for an impressive 240 days before eventually dropping it to Kofi Kingston in 2013.
As a performer for AEW, Cesaro had his second match in the company at Blood and Guts three days after Forbidden Door where he picked up the win for The Blackpool Combat Club against the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Following the match, Eddie Kingston showed off his displeasure with Cesaro picking up the win which is a callback to their rivalry back on the indie wrestling circuit and could come to a head sometime in the near future.
With how Cesaro is already trending up for AEW at this point in time, Hardy’s assessment of the Swiss performer could come true.
