Director Matthew Vaughn has explained how his "X-Men: First Class" experience as a director gave him the confidence to play around with historical events and helped him make "The King’s Man."

Both the movies are set during crucial moments in history: the Cuban Missile Crisis and the start of World War I, respectively.

"I think the main thing was it gave me the thought, ‘If I can get away with doing the Cuban missile crisis with blue people running around, I can get away with [The King’s Man],'" the 50-year-old director was quoted as saying by ScreenRant.

"And yeah, First Class definitely gave me the confidence that you can take a historical event and just play around with it a little, but still stick to the historical facts," he said.

“Some of the complaints at the moment are, ‘You've taken two genres and threw them together. What is this? What is it?’ I'm like, ‘Well, it's a Matthew Vaughn film. I had it on Kick-A--,'" Vaughn continued.

The director also noted that some people criticize him for making R-rated and superhero movies for kids. Vaugh said he often receives criticism for “trying to be different,” but added that if he doesn't try out new things, he may get bored easily.

"The King's Man" revolves around a man who works against the time to stop the biggest criminal masterminds and tyrants as they plan to wipe off the major world population. It serves as a prequel to 2014’s "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and its sequel, 2017’s "Kingsman: The Golden Circle."

The movie stars Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Harris Dickinson, Rhys Ifans and Daniel Brühl. The action-adventure is slated to release in theaters on Dec. 22.

"The King's Man" was originally scheduled for Nov. 8, 2019 release but later it was pushed to Nov. 15, 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date was changed eight times.

20th Century Studios dropped the final trailer of the movie on YouTube on Tuesday.

Besides "The King's Man," Vaughn is currently filming a spy thriller movie, "Argylle," which is slated to release next year. The movie is an adaptation of Jason Fuchs' novel of the same name, penned by author Ellie Conway.

The movie will star Henry Cavill, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Catherine O'Hara and Bryan Cranston. He will also direct a sci-fi movie, "Courage," which is penned by Karl Gajdusek. The plot of the movie is kept under wraps.
