Fort Grey loves E-40!

In a sneak peek from Season 1, episode 8 of ABC’s “The Mayor,” rapper E-40 gets cheers and applause when Courtney (Brandon Micheal Hall) introduces him to the crowd of a music fest.

“Let’s get the show started and make some noise for one of my heroes and Bay Area legend, E-40,” Courtney tells the audience, which includes his chief of staff Valentina (Lea Michele) and his best friends Jermaine (Bernard David Jones) and T.K. (Marcel Spears).

“It’s great to be here for a great cause,” E-40 says as he takes the stage. “Thank your hooking me up with Fort Grey’s hottest backup singers.”

According to the synopsis for the episode, Courtney and his crew discover that Tito’s (Duane R. Shepard Sr.) Ballroom, the historic music venue in Fort Grey, is closing down for good due to increased rent costs. In an attempt to save the club, Courtney sponsors a music festival and enlists E-40 to headline the event.

E-40, née Earl Stevens, has released more than 20 studio albums to date. E-40 started as an underground artist, who gained a wider audience after the 1995 release of his solo album “In a Major Way.” He began working with more mainstream rappers outside the Bay Area in 1998, and became even more popular in 2006 after the release of his single “Tell Me When to Go,” which was produced by Grammy winner Lil Jon. E-40 is also a founding member of the rap group The Click, and the founder of hip hop record label, Sick Wid It Records.

“The Mayor” marks E-40’s first TV acting role after his guest-appearance on the WB’s “The Jamie Foxx Show” in 2001. On the film side, the rapper appeared in a number of movies, including “Dead Heist,” “Survival of the Illest,” “Hair Show,” and “Obstacles.”

Elsewhere in the upcoming episode of “The Mayor,” Dina (Yvette Nicole Brown) agrees to become choir director and soon realizes that her teaching style might be preventing her group from singing in perfect harmony. In the sneak peek from the episode, Dina seems to have learned her lessons and tells her fellow choir members that all of them are gonna have “equal voice” in their group.

“The Mayor,” Season 1, episode 8, titled “Monuments Man,” will air on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 9:30 p.m. EST. Watch the sneak peek from the episode below:
