‘The Mayor’ Halloween Episode Sneak Peek: Dina Pranks Courtney, Jermaine And T.K.
Courtney gets an idea from his mom Dina on how the kids of Fort Grey should experience Halloween.
In a sneak peek from Season 1, episode 4 of ABC’s “The Mayor,” Courtney (Brandon Micheal Hall) arrives at home and finds his mom (Yvette Nicole Brown) lying on the floor. With a visible gunshot wound in her head, Dina appears to be dead. But despite the gruesome sight, Courtney knows that her mom is just trying to prank him.
“Dateline 48 Hours Mystery?” Courtney asks.
Dina answers: “20/20, the one where the husband shot his wife and then dyed his hair blonde.”
While Courtney doesn’t fall for Dina’s prank, the same is not the case for his friend, T.K. (Marcel Spears), who immediately freaks out after seeing Dina seemingly lifeless on the floor.
“Every year she gets you and every year you scream like a little girl,” Jermaine (Bernard David Jones) comments.
Feeling accomplished by what she has done, Dina declares: “Every year on Halloween I would shut this building down so you boys could go running around carefree like a bunch of maniacs.”
Apparently, Dina’s plan inspires Courtney. “The kids of Fort Grey deserve to have the same Halloween experience that we had,” he says. “So by the power vested in me as mayor, I’mma give it to them.”
Just when Courtney, T.K. and Jermaine think that Dina’s prank is over, something from Dina’s abdomen explodes, squirting fake blood everywhere. “On ‘20/20,’ the husband also rigged her body with explosives. He was sick,” Dina explains.
According to the synopsis for the episode, Courtney finds himself at odds with Police Chief Fox (Kristen Johnston) over how to handle Fort Grey’s first annual spook-tacular celebration at City Hall. But during the actual event, Courtney realizes that throwing a party to keep kids safe doesn’t address the bigger issues in their community. So he commits himself to work with Chief Fox going forward.
Also in the episode, Dina gets into the spirit by dressing up as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, while T.K. and Jermaine set out to prank Val (Lea Michele) who ends up having the last laugh when she outsmarts the guys at their own game.
Meanwhile, executive producer Daveed Diggs revealed on Twitter that the episode features two original raps written and composed by his band Clipping.
“The Mayor” Season 1, episode 4, titled “City Hall-oween,” airs on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
