Veteran boxing and NBA reporter Elie Seckbach believes Mayweather vs. Diaz will break records in combat sports.

In the past few years, undefeated boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been actively participating in MMA. In fact, Mayweather even won a controversial MMA exhibition fight against novice MMA fighter Tenshin Nasukawa.

But the most notable fight Mayweather won was the boxing match against UFC champ Conor McGregor back in 2017. After the McGregor fight, Mayweather’s name has been consistently linked to different MMA stars including UFC star Nate Diaz.

The Mayweather vs. Diaz fight buzz became a hot topic in combat sports back in January 2018. Reports claim that the rumored fight was said to have “special rules” should it manage to materialize. However, the fight did not happen.

Just recently, Seckbach of EsNews, who has been covering boxing, NBA and Olympic Sports since 1997, discussed the idea of a “mega fight” between Diaz and Mayweather in his YouTube channel.

According to Seckbach, if Mayweather will decide to fight Diaz anytime soon, the fight will break records in combat sports. In the video, Seckbach also noted that even Manny Pacquiao’s advisor Sean Gibbons said that the Mayweather-Diaz fight will be a “crazy payday.”

The veteran reporter also believes that it would be bigger than the blockbuster fight Mayweather vs. McGregor.

However, as much as the idea sounds very interesting, there are certain reasons why the fight is unlikely to happen.

First, Mayweather has never announced nor hinted at a possibility to fight Diaz. The flamboyant champ neither has shown any signs of wanting to fight Diaz in his recent interviews. And more importantly, Mayweather is currently being linked to only two big names in combat sports – McGregor and Pacquiao.

Multiple reports pertaining to Mayweather agreeing to have rematches with Pacquiao and McGregor continues to surface. Aside from that, the undisputed boxing champ is reportedly participating in the l ive version of the TV classic “Superstars” that would take place in Japan on New Year’s eve. In the said event, Mayweather is likely to face McGregor as the former UFC champ is also reportedly agreeing to join the event.

Diaz on the hand, has set his eyes on UFC welterweight star Jorge Masvidal. In his most recent post-fight interview, Diaz called-out Masvidal in a way that the UFC will surely consider.

However, UFC president Dana White has not confirmed the talked-about welterweight bout between the two UFC stars.
