McDonald's announced its officially entry into the NFT industry with limited edition Non-Fungible Tokens to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their iconic McRib sandwich.
These McRibs NFTs will be limited in number and only around 10 fans of the McDonald's McRib sandwich on Twitter will get this limited-edition NFT. Nov. 1 is the start date for the distribution of these blockchain-based assets.
The American fast food chain company explained the process of how you can get their NFTs in their statement. "Here's how it works – to enter for a chance to win, make sure you're following @McDonalds on Twitter and retweet the Sweepstakes Invitation tweet any time between Nov. 1 through Nov. 7 from your public account. By Nov. 12, we'll select 10 fans who will receive the exclusive McRib NFT to add to their personal collection and enjoy even when it's not on the menu."
As the McRib season is right around the corner, people are craving the iconic sandwich. "From sliding into our DMs asking 'when is the McRib coming back?' to creating a locator tool where fellow fans can report McRib sightings, they've proven their love for this delicious, yet elusive sandwich. And now, we're giving them the chance to enjoy it year-round... digitally," the firm added to their statement.
The NFT will feature an immortalized version of the famed McDonald's sandwich. McRib is a popular barbecue-flavored pork sandwich which was introduced in 1981. Since 2006, McRib has been selling periodically, especially during the fall season in the markets it is popular in. The return of the McRib sandwich is a major event for McDonald's and this time, it will be solidified in the form of an NFT.
However, this is not the first time McDonald's is trying to take part in the NFT frenzy. McDonald's China recently announced the release of over 188 NFTs marking its 31st anniversary titled "Big Mac Rubik's Cube."
McDonald's China partnered with Conflux Network for this new deal and marked the beginning of a new era for the firm. Many other giants in the food industry have joined the NFT industry, including Burger King, which launched its own NFT campaign last month.
